And sadly the number of cases of eye injuries during the festive season is on the rise. Dr Himanshu Mehta says, I see nearly a hundred patients during Diwali and at least one of them loses an eye. People should be especially careful during the festive season and even post Diwali when crackers are cheaper. However to make sure you don’t become a victim of an eye injury there are precautions you must take. Dr. Himanshu Mehta says first you need to have common sense. Don’t go close to where people bursting crackers. He adds that many children light a crackers bursts right in their face.

Superficial: This is when there is an irritation in the eye. Wash it with cool water and pat it dry gently. Do not apply an eye drops and if the problem persists, contact your doctor.
Bleeding: If your eye is bleeding, wash it gently and apply a clean cloth on it. Dr. HImanshu Mehta adds, never press, poke or try to remove anything as this can cause clotting which is extremely dangerous. Visit your doctor immediately.

Dr. HImanshu Mehta says, “due to the excess pollution and late nights, many people do not remove their contacts and this can lead to infections. It’s best to wear protective glasses when out and maintain basic eye hygiene if you wear lenses. But most importantly, enjoy Diwali with common sense.
