Due to prolonged exposure to smart phones, computer and television, studies say that one can have frequent episodes of redness, watering, foreign body sensation, headache, pain and discomfort. Says Dr. Himanshu Mehta Bladeless Lasik eye surgery specialist from The vision eye center in Juhu, Mumbai India, “frequent blinking, multiple breaks, proper lighting and lubricating eye drops will help relieve the symptoms.”
Conjunctivitis
Either bacterial or viral, it is the commonest form of eye infection and accompanied with red eyes, watching, foreign body sensation, discharge (white/yellow), and lid swelling with generalized malaise, fever, cough and cold. “In cases with corneal involvement, vision can get hazy. Seek urgent attention and start treatment in the form of oral/topical antibiotics with lubricant eye drops. It generally takes 3 to 10 days to subside but in case of law immunity and virulent infection, it may take up to 3 to six months to resolve, “He explains.
Allergic Conjunctivitis Spring Catarrh
This is commonly seen in children and patients often complain about red eyes with severe itching along with a ropy discharge. “Do not neglect this condition and get examined thoroughly since relapse is common. Some patients could also be suffering from an underlying refractive error,” says Dr. Himanshu Mehta.
